I joined a community garden this summer. I’ve been wanting to do something like this for years, and so when I saw a plot opening up in my neighborhood, I jumped at the opportunity to join. So, yes, I’m officially a land owner! Lol :-) …of my own 4 x 8 garden plot.
I’ve planted tomatoes, eggplants, bell peppers, and an array of herbs. I’ve learned that the main “garden maintenance” after planting is watering and weeding. So, everytime I check on my garden, I pull out weeds and here’s what I noticed… Some weeds are tiny with shallow roots and I can pull those out real easy. Others are long, super deep, and tough to pull out from the roots. So, they keep growing and I keep pulling, until eventually I’m able to get the whole root out. Why go through this continuous process? Because the weeds feed off the precious nutrients in the soil that I want to feed my tomato, eggplant, and bell pepper plants. In order to grow the fruit (or vegetables in this case), I want to make sure I’m optimizing the nutrients that they get. Now, here’s the thing (because everything is an analogy for life itself)... Your mind is like this garden. You get to choose which thoughts you plant and which thoughts you water. You get to choose to pluck out those thoughts that are “weeds.” You know, the thoughts that drain you and make you feel less than. The thoughts of worry, fear, and insecurity. Now, just like the weeds in my garden, some of those “thought weeds” are more deeply rooted than others. So, if you find that your mind keeps going back to the same thoughts, and that you keep having to deal with them, it’s just because those are deeply rooted. They’ll take some time, patience, and consistent effort to work through. You’ll notice that other “thought weeds” are relatively new, so they’re shallow and easy to pluck out as soon as you notice them. Your mind dictates your reality. You have the power to choose which thoughts enter and stay in your mind. So be a vigilant observer of your thoughts because your thoughts literally create your reality. As soon as you notice a “weed” pop up, immediately replace it with a positive, affirmative thought. Two practices that are incredibly helpful with this are meditation and the use of affirmations.
